IT ALL STARTED WITH A FEW BEERS

OUR ADVENTURE

Our Adventure

After moving to Michigan from Portland, Oregon the husband and wife team behind Damn Handsome had a thirst for craft beer was - well - unquenchable. Fortunately they had one of the largest craft beer cities right in their back yard.

And after getting to know many of the brewers in the craft beer community - and the more Jarrett and Bridget learned about the craft brewing process - the more they realized so many healthy ingredients went to waste.  At the same time they also recognized that when it came to grooming products, guys got the bottom of the barrel as far as natural choices. Enter light bulb.

Why Beer

In most breweries across the US approximately 90% of brewed ingredients go to waste, needless to say, we saw this as “untapped” potential, especially because many of those “bottom of the barrel” ingredients are naturally beneficial for your skin.

Brewer’s yeast is abundant with B vitamins, and biotin. Oats, hops, barley and wheat are mineral-rich super grains packed full of powerful antioxidants and proteins. And don't even get us started on hops! These little beauties have been used as medicinal agents for ages, treating everything from ancient dermatitis to hair-loss.

Do Good

At Damn Handsome we value what’s useful, what is classic, well-made, hardworking and long-lasting. This is why our goal when we started Damn Handsome was - and always will be - to sustain a brand that is useful without introducing unnecessary waste into the carbon cycle.

Our motto is damn simple: Work Hard. Do Good. Stay Handsome. It's our commitment to the lives and livelihoods behind each product we produce. And that's why for every Damn Handsome purchase we donate soap to those in need.

MORE ABOUT BEER

PINT POWER

Brewers' spent grain is the major by-product of the brewing industry, representing around 85-90% of the total by-products generated and due to its high content of protein and nutrients this is where we come in a get...well, crafty.

Grains

Oats and barley and wheat are mineral-rich super grains packed full of powerful antioxidants and proteins, which help preserve the texture of the skin and help repair damaged hair.

All the while, gently exfoliating dead, dry skin without any harsh abrasion - perfect for drier or sensitive skin.

Brewer's Yeast

Brewer’s yeast is abundant with B vitamins, riboflavin, biotin and can help balance the pH of skin, regulate the production of sebum  - your skin’s natural oil - making it ideal for treating acne-prone and dry skin.

Not to mention, the maltose and sucrose sugars in beer tighten the hair's cuticles for enhanced shine and body.

Hops and Plant Oils

The bioactive molecule xanthohumol (present in hops) has shown to have antioxidant and anti-cancer effects 100 times that of green tea. In addition, our use of natural plant based oils - like avocado and olive - add rich vitamins C, E, K, folic acid, magnesium, and potassium. Which are not only packed full of anti-oxidants that help protect the skin from wrinkles and damage caused by sun, smoke, and pollution, but also act as humectants; that is, they draw water into the skin.
